Barbault’s Basket and What’s Actually Coming: The 2026–2027 Astrology of a New Era
Two cradle configurations, a Chariklo discovery chart, and the slow turning of an age
There are charts you glance at, and there are charts that make you stop, lean closer, and quietly say well. The two basket configurations forming over the next year and a bit are the second kind. I’ve talked about the first one before — the July 2026 cradle that astrologer André Barbault wrote about decades ago — but I want to revisit it here alongside something I hadn’t fully clocked until astrologer SJ Anderson pointed it out: there’s a second basket coming in June 2027. And since I wrote the book on Ceres, I figured I had to talk about that one, because she’s right in the middle of it.
Big credit to SJ for spotting it. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
A quick word before we begin: I’m not in the business of selling fate. Astrology is a mirror, not a mandate. These charts describe conditions, not commands. What I can tell you is that the configurations are real, the timing is real, and the resonance with earlier moments in collective history is real. What you do with any of it is, as always, yours.
The First Basket: July 2026
A basket pattern (sometimes called a cradle) is when you have an opposition with a stellium of supportive aspects beneath it, forming the shape of a basket. Barbault — a very accurate French mundane astrologer who, among other things, called the pandemic — described a particular cradle involving Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto as a marker of major global restructuring. End of a long chaotic cycle. Beginning of a more constructive era.
Around mid-July 2026, here’s what we have:
Jupiter in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius (with Juno conjunct Pluto)
Neptune in Aries sextile Pluto and trine Jupiter
Uranus in Gemini sextile Neptune and trine Jupiter
All of this anchored at four degrees
That’s the standard read. Here’s what most people miss when they look at this chart — because I run mine with the bigger family of bodies and points:
Haumea at two degrees Scorpio is square the entire opposition. She becomes the handle of the basket — and Haumea and Chiron are coming up to an opposition. Haumea is regeneration, rebirth, the recreation of the world from broken pieces. She’s not a passive bystander here. She’s the pressure point. She is also the focal point of a YOD, a finger of destiny (from the Uranus/Neptune sextile) and opposing Chiron in Taurus (a boomerang YOD) adding to her place as the pressure point.
Hekate sits at four degrees, conjunct the midpoint of Neptune and Pluto. The witch goddess, keeper of the keys, the one who hears the voice from below and reunites what’s been separated. That she’s threaded right through this configuration is, to put it mildly, not nothing.
So this is a more powerful basket than the textbook version. Not because I’m adding things for drama — I just use these bodies because they describe what’s actually happening.
What Barbault said
Barbault was neither breathless nor doom-laden. He suggested this period marks the end (or the beginning of the end) of a long chaotic cycle, leading into a more constructive era. He expected severe political challenges, major shifts in leadership, and a reality check around the time Uranus entered Gemini — which, well, we just had. He thought it would take a while to shake out. He thought rebuilding would be difficult. He also thought we were turning a corner.
I lean a little utopian, and I’ll cop to that. But I also think we’re in for more difficulty before we’re through. Both can be true.
The chart set for DC
Set the July 2026 basket for Washington DC and a few things stand out:
Mutable angles — Virgo rising, Gemini midheaven. Finding meaning. Putting something different out into the world about who we actually are.
A cluster at the top of the chart at 23° — Asteroid Lilith and Ceres (not shown for clarity in the basket. Anything mentioned can be seen in the chart share in the video I made - see below) straddling the midheaven. Two faces of the feminine archetype right at the most public point of the chart. Twenty-three is the most human of numbers, tied to Fibonacci and to the Venus cycle.
Uranus in the 9th — courts, justice systems, foreign relations, philosophy, religion. Big breaks coming, particularly, I think, from the more fundamentalist branches of inherited belief systems. The cherry-picking is getting harder to hide.
Jupiter in Leo in the 11th — the people, causes, groups. The judge in Leo saying time to take the lead.
Pluto and Juno in Aquarius in the 5th — the fifth house is risk, children, joy. The people are taking it back. We’ve had enough of oligarchs and autocrats. The fact that this falls in the house of children is, again, not nothing.
Neptune in Aries in the 7th — others, open enemies, the way we present ourselves, the way we’ve compromised ourselves for others. Neptune in Aries is softening the might-is-right warrior posture. Slowly.
This is the chart of a country in the middle of something it can’t yet name.
The Second Basket: June 2027
Then there’s this one. SJ flagged it on someone else’s podcast, just moving software around, and stumbled into it. Set for the exact moment Ceres opposes Pluto:
Ceres at 6° Cancer opposing Pluto at 6° Aquarius
Uranus at 6° Gemini sextile to both
Neptune at 6° Aries sextile to both
Haumea at 3° Scorpio opposing Chiron in Taurus — Haumea once again as the handle
Ceres, Venus, and Pluto have a great deal in common. I tend to think of them as Maiden, Mother, Crone of the divine feminine — Pluto often associated with the grandmother. They are all knotted into the Demeter–Persephone–Hades myth, which is not a story about a male rapist and a victim daughter. It’s an archetypal story about energies — descent, return, the cycle of seed and soil and season. Get that out of your head if it’s still in there.
Here, the matriarchal archetype is taking her rightful place. Not a matriarchy of women ruling over men. A re-balancing inside all of us. Men allowed to feel. Women allowed to be whole. The feminine restored as the heart of the home, however that home is shaped.
What else is in this chart
Mercury at 6° Cancer — joining the Ceres conversation. Speech and thought tuned to the mother-frequency.
Chariklo at 0° Pisces on the descendant when set for DC. Chiron’s wife, the spinner of grace, moved into the sign of love.
Regulus on the ascendant, conjunct the descendant of Chariklo. The age of the priestess. The age of meaning. The age of being more humble. Hands back in the earth.
Venus at 0° Gemini at the top of the chart, square Chariklo. A mutable Grand Cross, all at zero degrees — the Fool card, the alpha and omega, the threshold.
Hekate conjunct Juno in Gemini — the witch and the queen of the gods, together at the top. Communities, communication, change. All the queens are rising in this chart, not one of them.
Vesta and Pallas Athena straddling the Sun in Gemini — the strategist and the goddess of weaving, the inner flame and the loom.
Again, extra objects not shown in image can be seen in my video.
This isn’t subtle. And it’s not destiny, either. It’s the weather we’re walking into.
The Chariklo Discovery Chart — and Why 2027 Activates 1997
This is the part that, when I put the charts on top of each other, made me go oh.
Chariklo was discovered in February 1997. Her name means spinner of grace. Many of us who work with the Centaurs — the so-called walk-ins, if you like that language — believe she has been holding space for collective healing since the moment she was found. Not long before her discovery, Chiron actually moved within the orbit of Saturn at 6˚ degrees Leo, her discovery degree. Almost as if he was introducing his wife.
Look at her discovery chart and you see a near-Star of David at 5/6 degrees. Already, that was a chart of integration trying to come through.
Now overlay the June 2027 basket onto Chariklo’s 1997 discovery chart:
Ceres in 2027 sits exactly on Chariklo’s discovery degree, opposing where she was in 1997. Chariklo has about a 4.6 something year orbit, so she’s been around a few times — but this is a return-and-mirror moment.
Chiron in 2027 is opposing where it was in 1997, and exactly opposing Haumea. Regeneration of truth, faith, belief, community.
Juno is right there — sacred contracts. The hieros gamos, the sacred marriage, however you want to read it.
Neptune in 2027 sits on the 1997 Saturn, and we’ve just had that Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries. You cannot make this up.
Pluto sits on the 1997 Ceres, on the Uranus, on the Mercury.
The North Node has just crossed the 1997 Venus.
Jupiter is in there too, threaded through.
I sat with this and just said holy heck out loud, more than once.
1997 was an enormous year, personally and collectively. My dad got sick and died. I got married and got pregnant. Birth, marriage, death — all in one orbit. Princess Diana died that year. We are still, in 2026, finding out things from that era — about royal families, about networks, about who knew what. More is coming. The 2027 basket activates all of it.
And One More Thing About the US
Six degrees Aquarius and Leo are the nodes of the United States.
Pluto will be exactly on the US south node for the first time in February 2027. It may go over more than once. We’ve already had the Pluto return. We’ve had the Neptune opposition. We’re two degrees away from a Uranus return. There’s also a Venus star point return this October, which is part of why I’m putting so much love into the Venus retrograde class coming up in September.
Pluto on the south node, alongside the Uranus return, with Pluto in Aquarius — which is Uranus’s sign — points to massive untold changes. Alliance shifts. The shedding of an older identity. This is not punishment. This is composting.
And yes, the whole thing happens with the descending Kali Yuga / fourth turning / end of the great year as the larger backdrop. We are about 26,000 years into a long cycle, and we are turning the corner. In Kairos time — universal time, not clock time — it’s a blink.
So What Do We Do With This?
Nothing, in one sense. You don’t do a transit. The transit is the weather. You decide how to dress.
In another sense, everything. These charts are pointing at a few things worth tending right now, well before the exactness of either basket:
Reconnecting to the earth. Ceres has, to my mind, been weeping that we forgot. Manifest destiny, dominion, all of it — the story of being separate from the ground we stand on. Hands in the dirt. Eating real food. Knowing where you live.
Letting the feminine archetype come back into balance inside yourself, whatever your gender. Men healing too. The whole type-A male as proof of manhood thing is on its way out, and good riddance.
Tending your own sovereignty — not the screw you, I do what I want version that got hijacked over the last few years, but the older meaning. Self-governing. Rooted in the body. Responsible for your own thoughts, feelings, actions, and mistakes. Curious about what’s actually going on inside you.
Watching for the breakthroughs, especially around 9th-house themes — courts, religion, education, foreign affairs. They will not all be comfortable. Some will be a relief.
This is a slow build. The July 2026 basket cracks things open. The June 2027 basket is, I think, the bigger one — the one where Ceres steps into her seat. Then the Pluto–Haumea squares finish in spring 2028. Pluto’s out-of-bounds period — which Rosie Finn called Persephone’s Revolution — runs through to 2035, and I think it’s pointing at clean energy discoveries and a real rebalancing of what work and survival look like.
I know I’m a utopian. I’m naming it. I also think we’re going to be okay, and the next stretch is going to ask things of us. Both can be true.
A Card and a Closing Image
I pulled the Ten of Vessels for this one — the epistrophe of the Eleusinian Mysteries. The day of returning. The mystai becoming the epoptai, those who have seen, leaving libations at all the altars before walking back into ordinary life. Only when we are able to love and connect to our true self can we fully offer love to others. The rose at the top of that 2027 chart. Venus right there at zero Gemini. You really can’t make this up.
And then the Dragon Rider, because I needed it and I think you might too:
Once upon a time, when the sky was filled with dragons, there was a group of women known as the dragon riders. The bond between woman and creature was silent, powerful, and unbreakable.
Your dragon, your life, has chosen you. It’s waiting for you to choose it back. Just as it is. Just as you are. Loving yourself in a society that profits from your self-doubt is an act of rebellion worthy of the dragon riders.
We are not the chameleons of false belonging, mired in fitting in and measuring up and staying likable. We are the ones learning to fly the thing.
Two Baskets, One Quiet Sentence
If I had to compress the whole 2026–2027 arc into a single line:
The old shape is finishing. The new shape is forming. Tend yourself in the in-between.
That’s it. That’s the work.
Much love, Louise
Now go dance.

This piece is brought to you with thanks to Otter Spirit, who sent me three bracelets to try and ended up genuinely earning the mention. Tiger’s eye (I am a warrior), golden obsidian (I release negativity and embrace power), and lapis lazuli (I am connected to the infinite wisdom of the universe). Small beads, lovely little tags, and they ship in proper boxes with cards. Excellent article. I’m tracking the ‘Twilight of Pluto’ with Ixion, Orcus and feminine goddess dwarf planets discovered 2003 - 2006. Thanks for adding depth and insight to these topics. Especially the Pluto out-of-bounds until 2035, which aligns.
I’m a relatively new Cosmic Owl Substack subscriber. Thank you for your service and exceeding my expectations. A rarer aspect than I would like.
This is soooo amazing! I’d love to note that I’ve learned in the past few years that matriarchy doesn’t mean women ruling over men. Matriarchy centers children and the vulnerable, not women. It’s a society built around care. Not power or domination. Domination is patriarchal.
