Astrology Aspect of the Decade?

Pluto square Haumea 2022-2028

I’ve been eying this square between Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, and Haumea, Hawaiian Goddess of Birth and Fertility, for a while and I have come to believe that this square is a momentous and critical part of the shift into the Age of Aquarius.

No one agrees when the Age of Aquarius begins. My theory is that the shift is one that takes decades to occur but that Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius, combined with other factors, is one of the final shifts into the new paradigm more fully.

This shift includes the discovery of the Kuiper Belt, a doughnut-shaped ring of objects, extending beyond Neptune, that orbits around the Sun, and contains many of the newly discovered planetary objects that we Astrologers are trying to understand. This includes the many of the newly classified Dwarf Planets such as Pluto, Haumea, and more. This article focuses on just two of these Cosmic game changers and the THIRTEEN exact squares that are occurring from May 7 2022 to Jan 13 2027. The dates and degrees are as follows. You can see, however, that all these square aspects occur within a 9˚ span so, in effect, this is one long square that spans the last 3˚ of the signs of Capricorn and Libra and the first 6˚ of Aquarius and Scorpio.

There’s no doubt we are moving through very challenging and changing times as we move into the Age of Aquarius from the Age of Pisces. There’s no agreement when the New Age begins or began and I believe it’s a process that doesn’t have one moment of beginning.

On recent years we’ve lived through the Pluto/Uranus square, the great mass conjunction of Saturn, Pluto, Sun, Mercury, Ceres, and centaur Chariklo in Capricorn in January of 2020, the recent Saturn/Uranus square, the great mutation of Jupiter and Saturn at 0˚ Aquarius and more.

It’s my belief that the discovery of the multitude of Kuiper Belt objects, however, is one of the biggest bearers of the new consciousness that the Earth has ever experienced. We know that the discoveries of Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and the Asteroids have changed and expanded our consciousness and now here we are with thousands of ‘objects’ being discovered and expanding our horizons.

It’s clear that we mere humans don’t quite know what to do with these ‘odd’ and quirky objects. Some have rings, most have strange orbits, some have tails. Are they comets? Are they planets? What are they?

I’m not really concerned with the astronomical classifications. I will leave that to the astronomers to argue over. Let’s just look at the two under discussion today, Pluto and Haumea.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 in the Kuiper Belt, way before Astronomers realized that there’s a large population of icy objects beyond Neptune. First classified as a planet, Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet after the discovery of other Plutonic worlds in the Kuiper Belt, specifically Eris, the Dwarf Planet named after the Goddess of discord, who really shook up the Cosmos from our perspective.  

Pluto has been transforming us since he sprung into our consciousness. This mighty mini planetary object ‘is smaller than Earth’s Moon – has a heart-shaped glacier that’s the size of Texas and Oklahoma. In Astrology, Pluto has come to represent death and rebirth, destruction and resurrection, metamorphosis, regeneration, transformation, and is a catalyst for major change. Because of the Piscean Age’s mythology around Hell and Hades, Pluto is often feared. However, my favorite phrase for a Pluto transit thanks to my teacher, Maridel Bowes, is that ‘Pluto takes away what you thought was your power, and leaves you with what is truly your power’. It’s no wonder Pluto’s discovery coincided with the growth of psychology, psychoanalysis, and personal growth. Pluto has an orbit of 248 years.

Haumea wasn’t spotted until 2003 and first nicknamed Santa but not named Haumea until 2008 after the Hawaiian Goddess of Fertility and Birth. Haumea is one of the most unusual objects known so far. Roughly the same size as Pluto, Haumea is one of the fastest rotating objects in the solar system, around 4 hours. Haumea has an orbit of 284 years, just 36 years longer than Pluto.

Haumea has been described as football or cigar shaped but I think Haumea looks like an egg. Her unusual red spot looks like the umbilical cord connection to the Mother. How fitting is that for a pure creation Goddess in the nature of the Hawaiian creator Goddess who birthed Pele and other Hawaiian Deities? Haumea also has rings, which is a whole other wrinkle as to whether this object is a planet, a dwarf planet or what? 

Now these two objects are in this paradigm shifting square as they move from Cardinal signs Scorpio Libra and Capricorn to Fixed signs Scorpio and Aquarius. Initiating the start of the New Age and then creating the manifestation of it? 

Alan Clay of dwarfplanetastrology.com says ‘We can think of Haumea as being like the other side of Pluto's transformation, as the new that is reborn from the old, only Haumea doesn't need to destroy to create, she births the new from a reinvigoration of heritage’.

In this ongoing square, which incidentally is also loosely tied with aspects to Sedna as that trans Neptunian object with an 11408 year orbit as Sedna moves from Taurus to Gemini again suggesting that these objects are agents of massive change, is going to leave our world, and us, inexorably changed.

Square aspects are tense and are probably the aspect that causes most change because tension usually pushes change forward. Here we have the two working together for well over 5 years dependent upon what orb we use for the square

Both Pluto and Haumea are eruptive in nature. Both the birthing and dying processes are potent, powerful, and often violent in nature. Any person that has given birth can tell you that it’s a giggly pressured and, usually, painful process as the pressure builds over time. During the period of these thirteen exact squares, Pluto is bringing metamorphosis and Haumea is bringing the birth. 

As the two end their journeys in Cardinal signs, Libra (Haumea enters Scorpio fully on Oct 1 2023) and Capricorn (Pluto enters Aquarius fully on Nov Nov 19 2024), the two are a large part of creating our new paradigm.

What might this bring? 

The first square brought Finland and Sweden applying to join NATO and Finland just got approved as the second square approaches. The drought in the Western US uncovered remains in lake Mead, Nevada which are likely remains of Mob killings. 19 Children and 2 teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas. Leaders of the Quad nations, America, Australia, India and Japan meet in Tokyo, focusing on Chinese aggressions in the Indo-Pacific. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continued. Oklahoma banned abortions and the first ever US government report into Indian boarding school deaths was released (not complete), which documents more than 500 deaths across 400 schools and 50 gravesites over 150 years. 

One of the biggest pieces of news for an Astrologer was that Astronomers revealed the first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, known to Astrologers as the Galactic Center or Sagittarius A. 

Alan Clay in dwarfplanetastrology says that we are likely to see ‘power struggles between autocrats and the social renewal process in various parts of the world reach crisis points at each of the squares.’. I agree with this assessment.

As we approach the second square when I am writing this article, former President Trump has been indicted with more charges likely to come. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes, Fox News (Murdoch) is being sued for consciously lying about election fraud and rigging and evidence of corruption amongst oligarchs is coming forth everywhere. Both Scorpio and Aquarius are associated with power structures in different ways and there will be much more of this to come.

We are also seeing a conflict between science and scientific developments and fear of those developments. Think AI or the fight over vaccines. Scorpio is also very much associated with reproductive and sexual issues and we have a lot of struggles around those issues with more to come. 

One aspect of the squares I prefer to focus on is that there are THIRTEEN exact squares. This is the number of the Death card in the Tarot, and also the number of the maligned divine feminine. It’s the number of the snake, of regeneration, of Mother Mary, and, according to RidingtheBeast.com, the number that symbolizes the death to matter or to oneself and the birth to the spirit: the passage on a higher level of existence.

This is also the Earth (or the individual) at the center of the Horoscope with the twelve rays of the 12 signs and/or houses around the center. In other words, the raw creative power of the divine feminine is rising as we birth the New Age. 

By the time of the final square in 2027, the world is likely to look very different. New alliances, new power structures, and a time of enormous social renewal and birth. This is also partnered with the energies of Centaurs like Chariklo, Pholus, and Nessus and other Kuiper Belt objects entering our consciousness.

Apart from the peak periods twice a year around the exact squares, in 2023 Pluto, after retrograding back into Capricorn, squares the Moon’s Nodes on July 23rd, 25th, and July 28th which means that Haumea will be conjunct the Libra South Node and exactly conjunct on the third Pluto/Nodes square, July 28th, the day of the fourth Pluto/Haumea square. This event will also aspect the retrograde station of Venus on July 22nd at 28˚ 36’ Leo conjunct Black Moon Lilith and the degree of the Great American Eclipse of August 21st 2017 at 28˚ 52’ Leo.

The Great American Eclipse, whose path crossed right through the center of the USA, is generally agreed to have been a major factor in the massive polarization in the USA and, the summer of 2023 activates this Eclipse with a Cardinal Grand Cross/Square from the Cancer Sun, to the Aries North Node, Pluto in Capricorn, and Haumea and the Libra South Node.

This Grand Cross/square also aspects stationary Venus and Black Moon Lilith in Leo,  Hauma/South Node sextile to Venus/Black Moon Lilith and a quincunx from Pluto. 

If we add in the 2017 Eclipse chart, The 2023 Aries North Node is conjunct Uranus in the Eclipse chart at the last degrees of Aries and Mars, Aries ruler,  in the Eclipse chart is not only conjunct Mercury in the 2023 chart but also conjunct the Sun/Venus conjunction or Star Point at 20˚ Leo that will occur on August 13th 2023 at 20˚ 28’ Leo.

This is going to be one heck of a summer for the USA particularly, activating many of the energies brought forth after the Great American Eclipse. What an Election season and time for the first ever indictment of a US President past or present.

Cardinal Grand Crosses can be like alpha BEings vying for prominence and not really getting anywhere and this one includes squares to the Nodes of Fate, which is always a big turning point. There is an outlet to the tension of the Grand Cross/square, however, and that’s Venus conjunct Black moon Lilith making the Venus Retrograde in Leo one of the most important retrogrades for both the USA, the world, and us. This feels like a civil war of sorts, as I am sure we can all feel building anyway. May it be a war in the courts and in words only with Haumea conjunct the Libra South Node asking us to balance the scales of justice in a new way. 

As this all takes place at the penultimate and last/anaretic degrees of the Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, and Leo, it feels like big changes in our identities and future are coming, alongside changes in leadership as Leo is the sign of Royalty.  

2023 appears to be the peak of the thirteen exact squares because of all the above aspects, the birthing tension will continue right through to 2028. 

Hold onto your hats folks. The Age of Aquarius is truly being birthed.
